A Wish Gone Cold

Her foot slips from a stone into the water. She must get to the stream’s end before turning back into a mermaid. She thought that being human would be a beautiful experience.

But it’s not so. It’s dark and her heart pounds as she rushes down the stream’s edge. Mermaids don’t take much note of the cold. As a human it’s biting at her. Finally emerging from the forest to find the ocean, she stares at the moon looking for the inspiration it once brought her.

But It’s just…

Cold.
